With the delta variant causing havoc in different parts of the world, the Nigerian Government has shown its commitment with the “National flag off of phase 2 COVID-19 vaccination” which was held at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Abuja, today 16th August, 2021.
The Medical Director, Prof. Saad Ahmed in his opening remarks said that the choice of using the FMC facility for the flag off is quite welcoming. He thanked the Presidential Steering Committee and the Executive Director of NPHCDA for the honour. He stated that “prevention is better than cure” and further thanked the steering committee, the Federal Ministry of Health, healthcare workers and other development partners for coming onboard to record the tremendous success in tackling the disease.
He also commended the efforts of all partners, adding that the uptake of the vaccination during the first phase would not be possible if not for sensitization of the populace.
The Director General, Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, Dr. Chikwe lheakeazu also delivering his goodwill message, acknowledged the healthcare workers who have been working tirelessly through the night for the past eighteen months. He further implored Nigerians to support them as the queuing for vaccinations begins on Tuesday, 17th August 2021.
The Executive Director of National Primary Health Care Development Agency, Dr Faisal Shuaib who in his goodwill message expressed profound gratitude to President Muhammadu Buhari for his fatherly commitment in the course of the vaccination. He commended the efforts of the health care workers who have remained resilient and on course towards ensuring that eligible Nigerians are vaccinated.
The Minister of State for Health, Dr. Adeleke Oloruninmbe Mamora, speaking on the need to get vaccinated said that it offers the greatest chance for survival, even with infected persons. He added that the flag off is a great moment for Nigerians in the collective fight against COVID-19.
