INTRODUCTION
The department of health records federal medical centre Jabi, Abuja started as a small unit dated back to 2006 at federal staff hospital, Apo. Overtime the department has grown into a pivot point of the hospital specializing in the keeping of medical records and the provision of health information services. Its function also includes clerical/technical services affecting both outpatients and inpatients
The department is currently transiting from manual records system to an electronic records/ database system.
STAFF STRENGTH
It has staff strength of 53 which includes both professionals and non professionals
There are six (6) units of the Health Records department as follows:
- Registration office
- Records libraries where patients medical records are stored (there are seven records libraries: adult/main library, paediatrics library, managed care library, private wing library, IVF library, STC library and ANC library)
- Statistics unit
- Coding & indexing unit
- Speciality unit: SOPD Clinics, MOPD clinics, STC clinics etc.
- Admission and Discharge unit
ACTIVITIES/SERVICES
- Registration of new patients electronically
- Retrieval/filing of patient case files
- Daily/monthly collection and collation
- Facility attendance
- Inpatient activities
- Coding and indexing of inpatient discharge cases (using ICD10)
- Collation of data for research purposes
- NHMIS Reports
- Records visit entering for patient follow up
- Daily patient attendance entering
- Appointment system/Booking of patients
- Archiving
- Monthly, Quarterly and Yearly reports
