BRIEF HISTORY
The Fertility Centre is a sub-specialized unit in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology offering advanced care to couples struggling with the challenge of Infertility. This Advanced fertility (Assisted Reproductive Technology) service centre was set up in 2016, out of the need to bring affordable treatment to the average Nigerian Infertile couple, many of who would never become pregnant through conventional fertility treatment offered by an average regular health facility. The centre is named after the pioneer Medical Director of Federal Medical Centre, a consultant Obstetrician and Gynecologist who midwife the setting up of the centre.
Since the commencement of operations, the centre has recorded tremendous successes in virtually all aspects of modern facility care and is arguably one of the leading Government-owned hospitals offering In vitro fertilization/ Embryo transfer. In addition, the centre offers other advanced Infertility treatment, in line with global best practices and standards. Hundreds of babies have been delivered through the services rendered by the centre since its inception.
STAFF STRENGTH
The Fertility unit is manned by highly trained and experienced professionals. These include specialist doctors, nurses, counsellors, laboratory scientists, embryologists, and a team of administrative staff. These dedicated professionals work round the clock to ensure that within the premises of the Federal Medical Centre, Abuja, offers the unique opportunity for holistic care, based on the ease of collaboration with other healthcare services and other health care professionals where required. What this means is that clients in need of fertility treatment can have other health needs attached to by other specialists healthcare providers within the same environment without delays and at highly affordable rates.
EQUIPMENT AND SERVICES OFFERED AT THE FERTILITY UNIT
The fertility unit is equipped with state-of-the-art medical equipment. All the components required for holistic fertility care are warehoused within a dedicated structure with 24-hour power supply. Within this structure are offices, consulting/counselling clinics, state-of-the-art IVF Laboratory and operating theatre. The centre conducts fertility counselling and clinic consultations on a daily basis except during weekends. However, all registered clients have access to the clinic staff every day through the dedicated clinic phone lines. After completion of treatment, pregnant women who wish to continue their care at the Federal Medical Centre are referred for antenatal care and delivery making follow up quite easy and seamless.
