Federal Medical Centre, Jabi – Abuja, is a Hospital committed to providing a secured environment for patients, staff, and visitors. Security plays a vital role in the hospital’s 24hours medical services. Physical and verbal abuse in hospitals is not uncommon from aggrieved or distressed relations. It is therefore important that security policies, plans and instruction are fully complied with and implemented. A range of security measures is inevitable in achieving the objective of keeping the hospital safe at all times. Within the Hospital Management level, the measures include:
- Contracting a security company to oversee the security and safety of patients, staff, visitors and hospital equipment.
- Perfecting a security policy for the hospital.
The other core everyday security measures carried out all the times include:
- CCTV and security guards Monitoring.
- Surveillance.
- Keeping beats duties.
- Carrying out security patrols.
The hospital compound remains the area of security responsibility of the security Unit. At all moments, security operation and monitoring is carried out to monitor and direct patients and members of the family, as well as keep watch of the hospital equipment within the OPD, WARDS, LABORATORY, X-RAY DEPARTMENT, and the INGRESS and EGRESS security gates; and also monitors of the parameter fence. The guards on duty, especially within the wards work in partnership with the nurses and cleaners.
The security of the hospital is being maintained by the contract security guards Company, WATCHCON SECURITY GUARDS COMPANY, personnel of the NIGERIAN SECURITY AND CIVIL DEFENSE CORP, members of the NIGERIAN LEGION (Ex-servicemen), and men of the NIGERIAN POLICE; all are contracted by the hospital Management to keep security duties to guide and protect staff and equipment in the hospital.
In all, we have seventy-five (75) security personnel operating 24hours security watch within the hospital compound. These are made up of:
- WATCHCON SECURITY GUARDS COMPANY- 62 Security guards.
- NSCDC – 7 Personnel.
- NIGERIAN POLICE FORCE (2 are armed) – 3 Policemen.
- EX-SERVICEMEN – 3 Personnel.
TOTAL = 75 SECURITY OPERATORS.
The unit is headed by the CHIEF SECURITY OFFICER, Mr. Isaac Audu Ogoja Jnr
