The federal medical centre, Jabi was established in 2012 with about one hundred and fifty-bed capacity.
The hospital is known for its qualitative health care service delivery with a good sense of Hospital and patient relationship, however, the environmental unit was first established in June 2012 with a clear mandate to keep the entire hospital environment clean, safe and friendly at all times, with a staff strength of about one hundred and ninety cleaners.
The unit had her pioneer head who was then addressed as the cleaning manager whose responsibilities was to oversee the affairs of the unit and was being assisted by general supervisors and wards supervisors respectively.
The role of the unit mostly is to ensure the hospital environment is kept clean and sustain the serenity of the hospital at all time, it was also to ensure that all medical waste generated in the hospital are being disposed of as at when due.
The unit runs twenty-four hours 24hrs cleaning services, in order to achieve a good result towards ensuring that all toilets, wards, offices and the entire hospital environment, are kept clean.
The unit has been reposition according to government policy on cleaning services for government agencies which have currently led to the hiring of a cleaning company whose mandate has now replaced the in-house running of the cleaning services, however, the environmental unit is being empowered by the hospital management with a supervisory role to oversee the day to day running and activities of the cleaning company services.
The environmental unit is also responsible for the following
- Cleaning of the hospital environment
- Biomedical waste and management control
- Effective supervision and implementation of fumigation services
- Effective supervision of horticultural services for a beautiful and serene landscape
Federal medical centre Jabi remains one of the best hospitals in FCT Abuja which operates under a clean and serene environment.
